Haipou Jadonang, born at Kambiron (Manipur), was a mystic freedom fighter who tried to bring about a religious and social reform among the Zeliangrong community ie Zemes, Liangmai and Rongmei. Late Haipou had a vision for his people of a Naga Raj which led him to revolt against the British and in the process he brought together the Zelianrong people who were dispersed in different parts of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland. He was later wrongly implicated in a murder case and eventually executed at Imphal on August 29, 1931.
