Residents of Fellowship and River belt colonies in Dimapur have been reeling under total darkness as power supply has been shut for the past three days since Tuesday evening when a transformer blew up. The problem occurred when the transformer located near Don Bosco School junction burned out due to over loading. Power department sources told this Reporter that it would take one week at the earliest, to restore power. The department has no spare transformer as back up. With heat and humidity at its worst, affected residents vented their ire by by saying that while the department could not afford to spend Rs. 6 to 7 lakhs for a new transformer , the department has money to spend for purchase of new vehicles for its officers. Families with infants and children were hardest hit while water pipes ran dry as pumps could not pull water from the wells and food items perished due to power cut.
