A mother of six children was reportedly washed away by a sudden torrential flood in Dzüvürü stream below Lower Chandmari colony where she had gone to collect fodder for cows around 11 a.m. Thursday. According to sources, the victim identified as Harkali (55), wife of Nar Bahadur, a resident of Lower Chandmari left her home along with her son and daughter to collect fodder from the jungle. While crossing Dzüvürü stream, a sudden gush of water – caused by heavy rain that lashed the state capital Thursday – washed her away while the two children managed to cross the stream. On receiving information, volunteers from Lower Chandmari immediately began a massive search operation. The volunteers searched about two kilometer- stretch downstream from where the woman was washed away. However, the volunteers returned back after the search proved futile. Meanwhile, Lower Chandmari colony Panchayat secretary John Kath informed that volunteers would resume search on August 7 at the downstream portion. The colony Panchayat has appealed for volunteers from police, paramilitary forces and public to assist in search operation. On August 7, the search team would start off from the locality at 5 a.m. and proceed to Dzü River Bridge on NH-155 from where the search will first begin upstream. It was also learnt that a labourer was washed away under similar incident at the upstream of Dzüvürü stream at around the same time Thursday. However, he managed to grab a pole lying on the side of the stream and escaped.
