Action taken on H1N1

In the wake of the swine flu alert sounded across almost all parts of the country, the commissioner & secretary and the officers of the department of health & family welfare on Wednesday briefed the state cabinet on its level of preparedness in terms of combating the infectious H1N1 virus (Swine Flu). According to director, health services, directorate of health & family welfare Kohima, Dr T L Nakhro, the cabinet was apprised of the actions taken by the department some of which included: under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Team four Rapid Response Teams have been kept in place; action plan for H1N1 Flu prepared; all the chief medical officers/medical surgeons were instructed for arrangement of isolation ward for H1N1 flu suspected case on June 10; daily monitoring report of influenza like illness in the state to Central Surveillance Unit, Delhi started since the month of June; press releases on do’s and don’ts of H1N1 done; distribution of special issue of communicable diseases alert on H1N1 Flu to all the district surveillance officers; press briefing on the preparedness of the department with regards to H1N1 Flu done on June 9; sensitization of all district surveillance officers and rapid response team members; distribution of personal protective equipment sets, N95 masks and Tamiflu capsules to all the rapid response teams viz. Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung & the state; coordination meeting with veterinary and AH, administration, Police & KMC held on June 18 etc. Dr. Nakhro in a statement said that the chief minister in turn had also directed the department to have a separate meeting with the chief secretary so as to better the level of preparedness and in order to increase the state support wherever required.
