Tremor shakes Northeast states

An earthquake of moderate intensity shook parts of Nagaland, Meghalaya’s capital and some parts of North Eastern states on Wednesday. The tremor, measuring a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale, occurred at 3: 13 am with its epicentre at latitude 24.4 degrees north and longitude 94.7 east in Myanmar-India border region of Manipur about 300 km from the Central Seismological Observatory (CSO) at Upper Shillong, CSO officials said. The earthquake was felt in Kohima for few seconds. There was no report about any casualty or loss of property due to the quake. According to CSO officials, the earthquake was felt across the North Eastern states. However, there was no report of loss of life and property from anywhere, the officials added. The quake lasted over half a minute.
