The annual festival of Nagaland University NUFEST 2009 2nd Inter-campus cultural cum literary meet commenced on Thursday with minister for PHED Dr. Ngangshi K. Ao gracing the inaugural as chief guest and Prof. K. Kannan Vice Chancellor NU as the guest of honor.
Hosted by the Post Graduate Students Union Lumami (PGSU L), the three day meet is being attended by around 800 delegates from the three campuses (Lumami, SASRD Medziphema and Kohima campus) of Nagaland University. Delivering his inaugural address, PHED Minister Dr. Ngangshi K. Ao said the NUFEST was a very important event as it was the time when all students get the chance to meet each other.
Commenting about the university, Chief Guest said he had seen great progress since its inception. He also gave his observation about the university, of how it went through rough weathers in its early stages but added that things changed for the better. The chief guest called upon the university to develop a positive attitude with a progressive mind so that university could be a centre of excellence. He called upon the students not to fall prey to drugs and alcohol and other substance but to have a focused and concentrated mind.
He also added that one of the main objectives of the DAN government was the perseverance of culture and added that by preserving culture, identity is protected.
Calling upon students to preserve culture, the chief guest said “if we stick to our culture, others will respect us”. He also exhorted the students to emphasize on factors of truth, honesty and discipline which were the very tenet of culture.
Earlier in the program, guest of honor Prof. K. Kannan unveiled the souvenir of the meet before delivering his speech.
Also messages of greetings were delivered by OSD (Admn) NU (L) and President NSF.
