Sept 16 rape accused, co-accused held

Kohima Police Tuesday arrested both the main accused and the co-accused of September 16 alleged assault and rape case, from two separate places. The main accused Razounü Khamo (30) hailing from Phüsahodu village, Phek was arrested from Dimapur with the help of Dimapur police while the co-accused and witness to the crime Velazo Lohe was picked up from Kohima this evening. SP Kohima Zekotso Mero confirmed the arrests and said interrogation was on. He, however, said that police was yet to receive medical report of the victim and refused to comment further. It may be mentioned that an 18-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted and raped by one 30-year old Razounü Khamo. The accused allegedly took the victim forcibly towards Merema about four and half kilometers away from Kohima. Police source said that the accused who owns a private vehicle which he operates as local taxi first dropped another person along with the co-accused and the victim before the incident took place. NSF condemns Expressing concern over the frequent rape incidents in Nagaland, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) Tuesday “intensely” condemned the abduction and rape of an 18-year-old girl in Kohima September 16 last in Kohima allegedly by one Razounu Khamo, resident of Phusahodu village, Phek. Resting the matter “seriously” towards the Naga society on the “unprecedented” report on crimes of rape, abduction and homicides, the NSF assistant general secretary N Ejanthung Ngullie, in a press release, urged every Naga brethrens to deflect from such conducts in future.
