Hundreds of people offered floral tribute to the deceased pregnant housewife Th Rabina and former militant Ch Sanjit, victims of the July 23 alleged “fake encounter” on completion of two months of their demise on Wednesday. A public meeting held after the tributes at Lamshang in Imphal reaffirmed to continue the people agitation under the banner of Apunba Lup till the demands are fulfilled. People under the aegis of the Apuna Lup have been demanding the resignation of chief minister, O Ibobi Singh, punishment to the police commandos involved in the killing of Rabina and Sanjit , appropriate action against the police officers allegedly trying to the conceal the facts of the incident. Hundreds of people, families of the two deceased, relatives and well wishers converged at BT road near Khwairamband Bazar where Rabina and Sanjit were killed. People offered the tributes under strict police vigi and Imphal west district authority called out additional security personnel to control outbreak of any untoward incident. The public meeting at Lamshang in Imphal west district was attended by leaders of several civil organizations extending support to the people’s agitations. Speakers in the meeting criticized the state government for trying to suppress the democratic and rightful demand for delivering justice to the people by force and appealed the people to support the body spearheading the agitation till the demands are achieved. Student leaders who spoke in the meeting justified their decision of class boycott stating that there was no meaning to remain in the class room when people are killed by the state forces in unrestraint manner. “How can we remain seated and study in the class room when none can say who will be the next victim of fake encounter. Life is more precious than education. Dead is the last. When we can see life ahead what is the meaning of learning,” a student leader lamented. Meanwhile, torch rally called by the Apunba Lup was carried out at different parts of the state.
