Varsity teachers observe sit-in demonstration

Nagaland University Teachers’ Association (NUTA), Kohima Thursday observed sit-in protest against the new rules made by University Grant Commission (UGC) without consulting the Federation of Central Universities Teachers’ Associations (FEDCUTA) before finalization of regulations of service conditions of teachers and over the non-implementation of the revised pay for the university teachers. A banner that read “NUTA Kohima demand immediate UGC consultation with FEDCUTA on new regulations” was also put-up outside Nagaland University office, Kohima. The protest call was issued by Federation of Central Universities Teachers’ Associations (FEDCUTA). CEC NUTA informed that NUTA Lumami and Medzhiphema campuses also observed sit-in in their campuses. On September 23 Nagaland University Teachers’ Association (NUTA) members wore black badges against the “anti-teachers’ policies” of the UGC. Meanwhile, reports received from Shillong said that teachers association staged a protest rally in North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) campus at Mawlai. Other demands of Association include – rectifications in pay fixation table of associate professors and professors; enhancement of grade pay of assistant professors and professors.
