A group of five-six armed robbers looted passengers on a train headed to Delhi of cash, jewellery and other valuables in the suburbs of the national capital Monday. Police said they had found “definitive” clues and would arrest the robbers soon. The masked robbers boarded the Kalka-Delhi Himalayan Queen Express at Sonepat in Haryana and looted passengers in the general class bogie of cash, jewellery and valuables like mobile phones at gun and knife point. The robbers, who were reported to be in their twenties, escaped by pulling the alarm chain of the train at a secluded place between Holambi Kalan and Narela railway stations in north Delhi, police said. A policeman who visited the spot said they received a call around 9.53 p.m. “but when we reached the spot, the train had already left”. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime and railways) Behron Singh said a case has been registered and investigations were on. “We have found definitive clues and are tracing the perpetrators. We hope to nab them soon. They are residents from the outskirts of Delhi near Haryana,” Singh told IANS. Police officials said three victims have come forward with details of the incident and more people were likely to contact them. According to a police officer, the exact value of cash, jewellery and other valuables looted by the robbers is not known yet, but it does not appear to be much.
