Effigies of demon king Ravana, his brother Kumbhakaran and son Meghanad were set ablaze amid bursting of firecrackers here to celebrate Dussehra, symbolising the victory of good over evil. The Ravan vadh was celebrated after the immersion of the goddess Durga and her pantheon were immersed in Wah Umkhrah amidst beating of dhak drums, clashing of cymbals and frenzied dancing of young men and women. Hundreds of processions comprising trucks and buses loaded with devotees as well as private vehicles then spilled on to the streets and made their way to the Wah Umkhrah. Apart from members of the Bengali community, people hailing from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar also prayed to Goddess Durga before immersion. After leaving the images into water, the devotees hugged each other and wished each other a pleasant year.
