In connection with Wokha sub-jail break incident on December 14, 2008, wherein seven prisoners escaped, Wokha Police Tuesday around 7.30 am arrested the main mastermind, who was earlier convicted for serious theft offence, from zero point area, Wokha, Police said Wednesday.
Speaking to this Reporter over the phone, Addl. SP Wokha C. James Kinghen said the mastermind, identified as Merio Ennie of Changsu village, who had planned the whole escape plans for him and the other inmates, have been evading arrest for more than seven to eight month.
It may be mentioned that seven convicts escaped with the help of iron tools to scale the prison wall on India’s Independence Day’s eve.
Confirming the arrest, police sources said the convict was going towards Wokha from Changsu village in a passenger bus, when Wokha police apprehended him on a tip-off.
Asked about five convicts arrested earlier, Wokha Addl. SP Kinghen said two convicts Nchumbemo Kikon of Baghty village and Mhao Ezung of Soku village were arrested December 16, 2008, Nrithung Kikon of Champang village and Abemo Murry of Sanis town were apprehended from Bhandari January 20, while Janbemo Tsopoe of Akuk village was arrested from Wokha town, NST area on March 29.
The seventh convict identified as Pankaj Borah of Merapani is evading arrest
Police sources also disclosed that five convicts have been forwarded to central jail, Dimapur, adding that efforts were on to nab the absconder.
