The AOE, NPWD, ANDESA under NPWD and the AOME have decided to put on hold their ongoing agitation programme till October 31. A joint release signed by the presidents of AOE , NPWD; AOME explained that the decision came after a communiqué issued by the government that it would look into the charter of demands of the associations and that a cabinet decision on the matter would be taken up within October.
The associations also disclosed that chief minister, on his return from engagements abroad, had taken an initiative to resolve the standoff between the associations and the government. The chief minister informed the members of the associations at a meeting on September 30 that restoration of amalgamation of principles, empowerment of the director, urban development with the powers of the chief engineer works and housing, would all be resolved at the earliest.
The chief minister further informed them that a cabinet meeting would held at the earliest and within October after which the associations at an emergency meeting held on October 1, decided to call off the agitation
The associations also expressed gratitude to constituents of FONESSA for pledging solidarity with the agitating associations.
The office bearers of all the associations also acknowledged the cooperation and active participation of all the members posted in various parts of the state and further appealed to all members to cooperate in future programmes. The Association also expressed regret to the contractors and general public for the inconvenience caused due to the agitation.
