In an attempt to revitalise the Congress party here, AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Tripura on October 6. Party sources today said Rahul had been travelling across the country to strengthen the youth-wing of Congress as well as oversee the party activities but for the first time he had planned to visit Tripura. According to report, the purpose of his visit is to watch over the ongoing election process of Pradesh Youth Congress and to hold meeting with Youth Congress workers and Tripura Pradesh Congress leaders on October 6. The state administration has also received the tour programme of Rahul’s visit and senior officials of Special Protection Force would schedule to arrive here today to review the security arrangement of Mr Gandhi, official sources said. Tripura Congress had been facing factional squabbles over the leadership and a large section of Congress activists including, legislators opposed the incumbent party president and former chief minister Samir Ranjan Barman for past few years but AICC ignored the issue. Finally, Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi sent AICC general secretary and Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, V Narayanswami last week to manage the intra-party feuds and he urged the party workers to maintain discipline and unity. Narayanswami had mentioned to media before leaving the state that he would submit a report on the present status of the party affairs in Tripura to Congress High Command including, the demand of changing party president.
