Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K V Pusa has slammed the state government for the deplorable condition of roads in the backwards districts like Mon, Tuensang and Kiphire which he described as “nothing short of discrimination”. Pusa said during his recent tour of the districts, he roads were hardly motorable particularly from Mokokchung to Tuensang, Tuensang to Kiphire and Tizit to Mon. The deplorable road condition has led to high cost of transportation and which has pushed up prices of all commodities. He said the road in Tuensang was beyond description while the state government was spending crores of rupees for its “road shows” . Instead, he said the road condition in the backward districts was the real road show for the state government. He said precious funds could have been utilized for maintenance and repair of roads in the backward districts. The NPCC chief said roads in these districts have turned into streams or covered by weeds but yet the state government continued to proudly claim it has concern for the welfare of the backward distircts. The NPCC president called upon the people of those districts to come out against the step-motherly treatment meted by the state government. He also wondered what the elected members of the districts in the ruling party were doing when the condition of their people worsened under the DAN government. Meanwhile, Pusa said Congress is pro-people party and therefore would continue to raise its voice for the neglected people.
