Engineers rescued

Two engineers of a leading cellular phone service providing company, who were kidnapped from Lahorijan locality in Assam-Nagaland border September 24 by some unidentified ultras opposed to peace talks, were rescued by Assam police on Saturday around 2.30 pm. after nine days of grueling hunt involving personnel of Assam and Nagaland police. According to police sources, the duo was rescued by Assam police team led by SDPO Bokajan from the thick forest area near Saijang village under Karbianglong district, Assam. The police, however, said none of the abductors were arrested from the hideouts. Sources added that the engineers were immediately taken to a safer place owing to security reasons. The duo was abducted unidentified while they were repairing a mobile phone tower. They were constantly shifted from one area to another by their abductors. Refusing to identify the militant group involved in the abduction, the police said extortion could be the motive behind the crime. The two engineers were identified as B. Singh and Ram Mazumdar.
