NPCC alleges misuse of PDS

Pulling up the state government over the rampant misuse of public distribution system in civil supplies department, NPCC member, Sulanthang Lotha said corruption has reached its zenith in the civil supplies department. Addressing party functionaries of Dimapur district yesterday, he blamed the chief minister for wrong policies in handling the department and thereby encouraging manipulation and corruption. “it is due to the wrong policies of the chief minister rice and other essential commodities are not reaching the people” Lotha added. He said Nagaland receives 4360 metric tons of rice and out of which 1160 mt is for Dimapur alone but not a single kg reach the people. For Dimapur district it is supposed to receive 200 mt of rice from M S Khrielie Angami, 300 MT from Temsu Jamir, 300 mt from Vikheshe Sumi and 360 mt from Kuthu Newmai, but said all these are diverted to either other states or sold in the open markets. Dimapur also is suppose to receive 519 quintals of wheat under APL. While under BPL Dimapur should receive 3317 qtl of rice, wheat 825 qtl and under AAY rice-1711.50 qtl and wheat-416.50 qtl. Levy sugar for Dimapur district is 400 qtl and for Niuland 100 qtl. Lotha who is also member consultative committee Food Corporation of India, Nagaland state said though essential commodities never reachers people district administrations issue utilization certifications. Lotha who had also visited some of the FCI godowns recently was suprised to see that the buildings are collapsing and that not a kg of rice, sugar and other essential commodities reach the people. On behalf of the congress party he demanded the FCI to furnish all the beneficiaries lists under BPL, AAY and Annapurna with district wise/village wise with their ration cards members. Lotha also demanded cancellation of licences of all the Fair Price Shops in the state stating that these FPS owners are the main culprits. He asked the district administrations not to issue utilization certificates anymore henceforth as essential commodities are not at all reaching the people.
