164 Inf Bn (TA) (Home & Hearth) Naga will be celebrating the 60th Territorial Army (TA) Day on October 9. The commanding officer of TA Battalion, Col KB Jairaj, along with Sub Major and another officer of unit paid courtesy call to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and presented him a memento on the occasion.
Territorial Army came into existence as a voluntary force, on October 9, 1949. It was raised by the then Governor General of India, C. Rajagopalachari. To commemorate the 60th year of its raising (Diamond Jubilee), a week long celebrations that began from October 5 are being organised all across the country. TA has the distinction of having had of a number of important Dignitaries, among its folds. The prominent citizens to have served the nation include : Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, KP Singh Deo, former union defence minister, Lt Col Kapil Dev and Lt. Col Mohan Lal (A Malayalam Film Star) and Maj D.Y Sema, Power Minister of Nagaland.
To commemorate the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the TA Day, the TA Battalion has organized a large number of events and adventure activities which include Trekking expedition to Mount Japfu, motorcycle rally, six km run–for–fun, volleyball tournament.
A special Barakhana and variety entertainment programme for all ranks of the unit and their families, is also being organised. A function is also being organised in the officers mess of TA Battalion, which will be attended by large number of senior serving and retired officiers.
