Right To Information (RTI) awareness week was held at Town Hall, Dimapur on Wednesday with State Information Commissioner, Nagaland, Rev. Dr. Pongshing addressing the gathering while DC Maongwati Aier delivered the keynote address.
Addressing the gathering, Rev Dr. Pongshing informed that RTI week was being observed all over the country from October 6-12. He also lauded all DCs of 11 districts for taking up efforts to conduct the programme. Information Commissioner also expressed hope that respective PIOs would discharge their responsibility with integrity and transparency as and when the citizens of the district come forward seeking information through RTI Act.
In his key note address, DC Maongwati Aier asserted that RTI Act was the greatest power given to a citizen to inquire about the function and responsibilities of various offices which also include NGOs assisted financially by state or by central government. Urging various departments and individuals to play a proactive role he added that duty and responsibility of every department or individual have increased after the implementation of the act.
Er. Yanger Pongen, SDO (PHE) Urban Division gave a power point presentation on the concept of RTI from a historical prospective while Manager (Legal) & PIO, NIDC K. Nakhro gave a presentation on the citizens right to information.
Meanwhile, Wokha district administration also organized an awareness programme on RTI on October 6 at DC’s conference hall with advocate Orenvungo Humstoe and project officer DRDA Thungchamo Khuvung as resource persons. ADC Wokha Athel O Lotha requested all PIOs to organize an awareness campaign by October 12 in order to sensitize the staff. She also informed that RTI act in Kyong language will be made available for schools, colleges, civil society, churches, village councils, NGOs and general public at DC’s office on October 7 and 8.
