Tourism director, T. Alem Pongener inaugurated the Rural Tourism Centre constructed under centrally sponsored Rural Tourism Project at Changtongya village on October 7.
According to an official bulletin, a two storey building constructed under Rural Tourism Project was initiated during the year 2007-08 and was completed with 3 double-bedded rooms with all facilities to provide lodge to the tourists.
The Rural Tourist Lodge at Changtonya village was the second of its kind after Longsa village in Mokokchung District that helps promote Rural Tourism in the state. Speaking at the inaugural function, Tourism Director, Alem Pongen said the idea behind the implementation of Rural Tourism project in the state was to attract Tourist from outside. Handing over the Tourist Centre to the villagers, the director called upon the villagers to maintain the tourist lodge properly so as to attract tourist in the village and added that the construction of the Tourist Centre in the village was to showcase the rich culture and tradition of the Nagas to the tourist in its true spirit.
The Director also suggested to the village council that, maintenances of the tourist lodge could be either done by the villagers themselves or it can be handed over to another self help group, unemployed youth or any other NGOs under the supervision of the village council.
The inaugural function was attended by officials from the tourism department, officials from other departments, village council, church leaders, student leaders and a good number of citizens of the village.
