Responding to the ‘explanation call’ served by the Nagaland Government Registered Class-I Contractors Union, (NGRC-1CU) to the Nagaland University (NU) Registrar, the executive engineer, Er. R.Rhakho NU has clarified that no contract work has been awarded so far since the new Registrar joined the University. With regard to termination of the tenders of NU, the advertisement calling tenders issued earlier was cancelled under the clause 17 of the NIT dated 4th May 2009. It also clarified that the University being a public institution, visitors could not be denied access for visiting University officials which could not be construed that people “come for negotiations.” The executive engineer said that the NBCC (a Government of India organization), which was previously awarded the works of Nagaland University, had withdrawn its activities from the Northeast. It therefore said that the University was compelled to issue advertisement for empanelment of contractors and that the matter was currently under scrutiny. The university termed it as “very unfortunate” that “baseless allegations” were made by the vested interested people for which it was in no way responsible. “This kind of baseless allegations amount to harassment of the officials of the University,” it added. It may be mentioned that the NGRC-1CU had accused the Registrar, Nagaland University of taking “dictatorial and autocratic” decisions in allotting supply and contract works under NU and asked him to reply on or before October 10.
