Peren District along with the rest of the world observed the 10th World Sight Day on the theme ‘Gender & Eye Health – Equal access to Eye care’ on October 8 at Town hall, Jalukie.
The function was chaired by Er. Namheu Khate, SDO (Electrical) Jalukie, and Rev. Fr. John Kavas pronounced the invocation prayer, followed by a welcome speech from Dr. Senliwati, Dental Surgeon, CHC Jalukie, the Catholic Youth Jalukie town cheered the participants with their special melody.
Gaubeu Rangkau, Chairman Jalukie Town Council in his short speech lauded the medical department for providing infrastructure to the district which had enabled eye operation and specialist service, fulfilling the most felt need of the people.
District Nodal Officer (NPCB) Dr. Hedungkiebe Zeliang, addressed the participants giving special emphasis on the theme, that women folks, young and old should also be given equal opportunity to avail eye care services.
He highlighted the present scenario of blindness in the country, its high chances of getting cured unlike other diseases. He also informed that cataract operation had been started at Community Health Center Jalukie besides other activities covering under NPCB.
The program ended with a vote of thanks from Dr. Rokovilie Kin, MO, CHC Jalukie. The programme was organized under National Program for Control of Blindness (NPCB) Peren district, which were attended by public leaders, town, village council members, Church and youth leaders.
