A one-day workshop on District Human Development Report 2009 was held Thursday at DC’s Conference Hall, Kohima with Prof. Manoj Pant from School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi as the guest of honour.
In his short address, Prof. Manoj Pant said Human Development Report was a very important exercise that needed contribution not only from the experts but also from all. Human Development Report was launched with single goal of putting people back at that centre of development process in terms of economic debate, policy and advocacy. He said active participation from all representatives, experts and individuals from various sectors would help in fulfilling this goal.
OSD, Planning, Kevileno Angami in her speech talked on importance of Human Development Report stating that there cannot be any economic development unless human resource was developed. She said besides Mon and Phek, Kohima was one of the three districts to be selected for the workshop on HDR which was an initiative of state government, supported by Planning Commission, government of India and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The first Nagaland State Human Development Report in 2004 presented a comprehensive picture on human development attainments in the state and provided a rich district level data for Nagaland. Inaugural function was chaired by revenue officer, Kohima, Kovi Meyase. In the technical session presentations were made by lead authors on different sectors such as Agri. & Allied Sector, Basic Service Sector, Infrastructure Sector, Gender Issues, Health Sector, Education Sector, Environment and Forest Sector and Economic Livelihood.
