Nagaland Senior Government Employee Welfare Association (NSGEWA) Dimapur district has lauded the stand taken by Central NSGEWA to protect constitutional rights of democratic citizens which had been ‘infringed’ by superannuation bill. A joint note issued by Nagaland Senior Government Employee Welfare Association secretary M Gangmei and chairman KV Assumi stated passing of the bill in the house was like ‘burying alive all those senior employees who have already rendered 35 years of service’ The release said government should have negotiated with the employees, but instead negotiated with the unemployed Naga Students Federation youth who had nothing to do with retirement of a government servant and the bill was done in “total secrecy with NSF” without letting any affected employee know about it. The release further said that if superannuation bill was made applicable, it would set bad precedence and force other states to pass similar bills causing legal problems all over; therefore the bill should not be passed.
