With the objective of roping in the media to initiate promotion of awareness against the growing tentacle of human trafficking in the north eastern states, a consultative meeting of the Impulsive NGO Network with editors and journalists was held at Guwahati from August 29 -30. The two-day meet which revolved around the role of editors in addressing human trafficking in North East region was organized by the Impulsive NGO Network in collaboration with Eastern Chronicle and supported by the UN Development Fund for Women. The areas of concern shared and deliberated during the meeting included trafficking of women and children for prostitution, sexual exploitation, labour, cross border trafficking, cyber-trafficking and other forms of trafficking where many girls and women from North Eastern are victims. The delegates also deliberated on ways to tackle the issue through the reach of the media. A presentation on the scenario of trafficking in the north east region was made by Hasina, project director of Impulsive NGO Network, while other presentations included on online citizen journalism, cyber-trafficking. Editor in chief, Eastern Chronicle, Bijoy Krishna Nath also addressed the gathering.
