Police rescue trader

A trader dealing in rubber processing materials who was reportedly abducted by two armed men on August 27 at around 10 am from Ghorapatti was rescued by Dimapur police on Saturday night around 8 pm from Deluxe Point. According to police sources, the kidnappers had asked for a ransom of Rs 30, 000 from the victim’s wife. However,after police got wind of their plan, a trap was laid. Later when the kidnappers went to collect the money from Deluxe Point on Saturday, they were confronted at around 8 pm. One of the abductors, identified as a ‘sgt. major’ Limanungit (32) of NSCN (I-M) was arrested after a chase till Murgipatti. The other accomplice however managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness. Meanwhile, in another case, two persons were arrested by the mobile party of the police on Sunday around 2.30 pm after they robbed an Assam Rifle personnel of Rs 500 in cash and a mobile at gunpoint near Friends cinema hall. Only the cash was recovered from the accused identified as Sanjeev Rai (27) and Punie Khiamnuingan (28). Police also informed that on interrogation, both the accused revealed that the mobile was in the custody of one person identified as Alex, a Manipuri, who reportedly belongs to one underground faction in Dimapur.
