Mahindra United blanked George Telegraph 2-0, while Chirag United drew Tata Football Academy 1-1, in the second day of the ongoing 114th edition of the prestigious IFA Shield played at Kolkata, Tuesday. Two goals in the second half gave Mahindra United all three points against a hapless George Telegraph side. Subair Muritala Ali and M. Mohammed Rafi found the target for the Mahindra. George Telegraph were down to ten men after their right back was sent off and never looked like making their way back into the match. Chirag United and Tata Football Academy (TFA) split points as the match ends with one goal apiece in the second day. Given the strength of the Chirag squad, the draw should count as a big achievement for the young players from TFA. Subodh Kumar gave Tata Football Academy the lead in the 47th minutes. But the joy for TFA Chirag was shot-lived when Shylo Malswam Tulunga found the equalizer in the 53rd minute. Meanwhile, India coach Bob Houghton was today livid that the national team players had to fly down to Kolkata to play for their respective clubs in the IFA Shield on the next morning after defending Nehru Cup title here. National team players from Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Churchill Brothers and Mahindra United had left for Kolkata early this morning and Houghton said it reflects poorly on the professionalism of Indian football. “I was told this morning that some players are taking early morning flight for Kolkata to play in the IFA Shield. They had just played in a tough international tournament and they would be playing in a domestic tournament next day. I could not understand and asked (Alberto Colaco) is that serious,” Houghton told reporters here today. When told such things have been happening, he said, “It seems so. Professional people don’t do like this. IFA changes fixtures again The IFA today released a revised fixture list of the ongoing 114th IFA Shield. Due to internal organisational reasons and requests from clubs the IFA (West Bengal) has decided to change the venue and dates of some matches, but the kickoff times haven’t been changed and have been kept at 14.45 IST for the group stage. Tomorrow’s match Mohammedan Sporting Club vs Churchill Brothers SC will now be played at the Mohun Bagan ground instead of the far away Barasat Stadium. On September 3 Maidan giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan were supposed to play simultaneously, but now the IFA has decided to postpone the Mohun Bagan vs George Telegraph SC match by a day. It would now be played on September 4 at the Mohun Bagan ground, while the match originally played on that day to be played at the Mohun Bagan ground between Churchill Brothers SC and Lajong FC would now be held at the Barasat Stadium. Wednesday’s Matches Group B: Mohammedan Sporting Club Vs Churchill Brothers SC (Barasat Stadium) Group D: AS Douanes (Senegal) Vs Air India (Howrah Municipal Stadium)
