Pune FC, Lajong FC knocked out of IFA Shield

Pune FC and Lajong FC were knocked out of the IFA Shield as both matches end in draws. In the first match, Mohammedan Sporting Club drew with Churchill Brothers SC 1-1, while in another encounter Air India and AS Dounanes were locked to goalless draw. Reisangmei Vashum gave Churchill Bothers the lead in the 26th minute hut their joy was short-lived when Dipendu Biswas found the equalizer right after three minutes. With this Mohammedan Sporting now have four points from two matches. So, if Churchill Brothers manage to beat Lajong FC in the last match of the group, goal difference between Mohammedan Sporting and Churchill Brothers will be the criterion for qualification for the semi-final stage of the tournament. Which means, Lajong FC are already out of the tournament as even a victory against Churchill would be insufficient for qualification for the semifinals. Air India has to split points with AS Douanes and now have four points from two games. In the last match of this group, AS Douanes must defeat Pune FC and finish with a better goal difference than Air India to qualify for the semi-finals. Pune FC will be playing for pride as they are already out of the tournament due to their loss against Air India on Matchday 1. Lajong FC lost to Mohammedan Sporting 0-1, while Pune FC went down fighting to Air India 1-2 in their opening matches on Monday.
