Police have rounded up three leaders of the Apunba Lup spearheading the people agitation against alleged July 23 “fake encounter” Tuesday night. The Apunba Lup termed the act of the government as an invitation to more intensified agitation. The three leaders, Mutum Ibemhal Devi (70), of Uripok Sorbon Thingel, Meyengbam Radhesana (70), of Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai, Oinam Bikramjit of Oinam Mamang Leikai were apprehended Tuesday night from the residence of Ibemhal at Uripok Sorbon Thingel by a team of Imphal west district police. The Working Committee of the Apunba Lup who announced the boycott of Congress MLAs and SPF’s coalition partner resolved to oust chief minister O Ibobi. The body also appealed to all organisations, clubs, Meira Paibis, women and student bodies and private individuals not to invite the MLAs and ministers to any function/programme organized by them. The Apunba Lup said that the body would “severely deal” with organizations violating the stir, taking them as “supporters” of Ibobi and “collaborators” of his “killing spree” in the state. The body said Ibobi was not perturbed despite demonstrations by people and the massive people’s movement demanding his resignation and punishment of the commandos together with the police officers who attempted to cover up the fake encounter. The Apunba Lup further alleged that rather than paying heed to the people’s voice, Okram Ibobi was lobbying to “consolidate his reign” by offering crores of rupees to leaders of the central government, Congress MLAs, ministers and MLAs of other party supporting the incumbent government.
