Meeteis, Tangkhuls and Kukis settled at Nongsum and Khamenglok villages in interior Imphal east district bordering Senapati district have decided to boycott militants out to perform activities amounting to disturbance of peaceful co-existence of the people in the area.
The village chiefs and leaders of 10 villages unanimously decided to boycott militants groups operating in the area if they indulged in activities creating communal clash or tension.
Tensions among the villagers erupted after villagers were assaulted by the armed militants in a series since the assault of some Kuki villagers of Khamenlok village by suspected valley based militants on August 28 night in the aftermath of a gun clash with the security forces.
A joint declaration was made on Wednesday night by the chief and village leaders. The declaration also condemned civil organizations for making statement without knowing the ground reality and cautioned them of making any further statements.
