The body of late Haireisim Newme, a PhD research scholar at Hyderabad University who died from leukemia on September 1 was brought to Dimapur by flight on Thursday. A short memorial programme followed at Dimapur airport, which was arranged by Magulong Na Students’ Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland), and moderated by the union’s former president, D.Stephen Zeme. Family, friends, unions and well wishers in Dimapur gathered to pay their last respects to the deceased. A friend of late Haireisim from Naga Christian Fellowship (NCF) Hyderabad, Vikhepu Jimo, who accompanied the dead body from Hyderabad to Dimapur, gave a brief testimonial for his departed friend. Jimo said that late Haireisim joined Hyderabad University in 2007. He took ill on August 30 and was admitted to the university hospital, where doctors have referred him to Apollo hospital where he succumbed to his illness.
Minister for Planning & Coordination, Evaluation, Vet & AH, Parliamentary Affairs, T.R.Zeliang also attended the programme and expressed late Haireisim’s death was a great loss for the whole community, and paid homage to him on behalf of the government of Nagaland. Zeliang also thanked chief minister Neiphiu Rio, Nagas in Hyderabad and the individuals for extending financial and moral support.
NCF Hyderabad pastor Zajamo Odyuo, in a testimonial letter said late Haireisim had been a faithful and committed member of the fellowship, serving in various roles of leadership throughout his stay in Hyderabad.
Short condolence speeches were read out by presidents of Zeme Naga Students’ Union (AM&N), Zeliangrong Boudi Dimapur, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union, Zeme Council (north east India), Zeliang Students’ Union Dimapur, and Liangmai Arong Dimapur. The body was taken to the native village after the programme was benedicted by pastor Zeliangrong Baptist Church, Hegui Pame.
