KHE, KLRSU condemn Suphayan rape incident

: Kyong Hungjantaren Ekhung (KHE) has expressed “shock” over the rape incident that took place in Suphayan, Wokha district September 16. In a joint statement received here Friday, the KHE chairman Y Likhao Humtsoe and general secretary Dr Limhathung Jami “vehemently” condemned the rape incident and said that Wokha district of late has become a “breeding ground for rapists and antisocial activities.”It has urged NGOs, district administration and police to act swiftly in dealing with the menace. Further, the KHE has urged the authority to check on illegal, legal, hired or migrant workers and verify them, keep their records and necessary documents be verified. Observing that of late rape has intruded into Naga society and was eroding the very fabric of the cordial nature of Naga society, the Ekhung said this should be checked at any cost as it could happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere and “will get us unaware.” Meanwhile, the KHE has requested authorities to award punishment to the culprits and make known the outcome of the action taken. Meanwhile, Kyong Lower Range Students’ Union (KLRSU) has condemned the incident on September 16 where one Teresa Adivasi was raped by Raju Terung at Supayan village, Wokha district. KLRSU has urged all civil societies to condemn such inhuman act and requested district administration to take immediate action against the culprit.
