Additional Chief Secretary, School Education department, Banuo Z. Jamir has directed all heads of institutions to identify those teachers who had undergone trainings on disaster management conducted by Administrative Training Institute Kohima to organise sensitisation sessions in their respective schools to disseminate information on various kinds of disasters.
Stating that children, particularly groups of school children in classrooms were most vulnerable to serious injury in situations such as fire and earthquake Banuo Jamir said it was essential that a School Safety and Disaster Management Plan was put in place. Mock drills/earthquake drills should also be carried out so that students, faculty and staff were familiar and prepared with evacuation plans. which need to be immediate and appropriate when disaster strikes, stated an official bulletin.
Further, it informed that information on the need for more training for teachers on disaster management should be brought to notice of the Director of School Education/Nagaland Board of School Education or to the district education officer of the district where school was located, the notification further stated.
