Murder case solved within 12 hours

Less than 12 hours after the dead body of a small time trader from Bokajan was recovered from Naharbari, Dimapur police on Thursday morning, in a joint operation with Bokajan police arrested two of the five accused, including an army deserter, when both went to collect the ransom. According to SP Dimapur Liremo Lotha, the victim, identified as Rokib Ahmed(27) had come to Dimapur and was abducted from a shop in Circular Road on September 13.The accused demanded a ransom of Rs.80 lakhs but finally agreed on Rs.One lakh. The victim was taken to Naharbari and held hostage in a house. Despite the agreed ransom, it was reported that the accused persons murdered the victim on September 15 by bludgeoning his head with a wooden block. The body was dumped at Naharbari and yet the relatives were asked to bring the ransom money to a place in Khushiabil. Police located the place where the abductors had rang up by using the help of details from BSNL mobile towers. Dimapur and Bokajan Police then arrested the duo while they went to collect the ransom money. The two were identified as Johar Lal Masal resident of Naharbari and Deep Mech, an army deserter. Both the accused later confessed to their crime on interrogation. Further, the SP also said the remaining three involved would be nabbed soon.
