TPO condemns assault by Manipur Rifles and police

Tenyimi People’s Organization (TPO) has expressed shock over the September 15 and 16 incidents where six of innocent brothers were victimized by Manipur Rifles and Manipur Police Commandos. TPO stated that on September 15 one of its members was brutally assaulted by personnel of 2nd MR for no fault of his at Makhan centre on the NH-39. TPO further stated that on September 16 five students were fired upon while they were traveling in their Maruti car and injuring three of them by Manipur Police Commandos in the heart of Imphal. While viewing with seriousness on the incidents committed by uniformed personnel Tenyimi People’s Organization said it cannot tolerate anymore and if Manipur government failed to rein on its forces from repeating such act, it would have no other options but to “defend itself at all cost in whatever way”. Condemning the incidents, TPO president Z.M.Sekhose and information and publicity secretary S. Daiho urged the Manipur state government to weed out all erring and indiscipline personnel of all state force so that such ugly incidences do not recur. Further, TPO has urged Manipur government to make sure that justice be given to innocent victims and sufficient compensation be given to them while, the culprits responsible be awarded exemplary punishment as per the law of the land.
