The processed Ginger production factor at Manja, the only one of its kind in the district has now been undergoing renovation work after it was partially damaged in a storm. the factory was constructed from the RSVY scheme under the aegis of Government of Assam at the cost of rupees 90 lakhs. While the Agriculture department of Karbi Anglong was the implementing agency of this ambitious project, the only ginger factory of the district was erected under the direct supervision of district agriculture officer, Karbi Anglong last year. The industry was formally inaugurated by local MP, Biren Sing Engti on April 11, 2008. At the initial stage processing of raw ginger, cleansing, waxing, packaging etc. works were done in the factory. High quality machineries, generator, with all necessary electrical works and water facilities were arranged for proper dispensation of raw ginger. The 5 Rajputuna Rifles, a division of the Indian army also extended a hand for successful functioning of this profit earning industry of the Government of Assam. The army division donated two large size water tankers and few useful equipment for smooth working of the factory during the month of February this year. Unfortunately on May 4, a strong gale which lashed the entire Manja locality caused heavy damage of the factory building besides destroying some costly machinery. Presently the management of the factory has been carrying out restoration work of the entire plant with the intention to restart the production of processed ginger within the earliest possible period. Officials of the District Agriculture department revealed that they will also carryout processing of unrefined turmeric in the factory with the existing man power and machineries to produce top quality refined ginger.
