The first Wokha district inter-school math olympiad saw 18 teams from various schools across the district vying for top position through four rounds of hard quizzing at chapel hall of Christian Model High School (CMHS), Wokha Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Wokha district horticulture officer Dr R.E. Lotha said competitions in all fields was the order of the day and therefore it was very important for students to be well-prepared for their future. He also lauded the efforts of the Kyong Hungchantaren Ekhüng (KHE) in their endeavor towards capacity building for Kyong students and Kyong population in general.
Organized by KHE, the math olympiad had two-member teams squirming in their seats even as their schoolmates from the audience kept cheering all through the preliminary round, mental ability tests, visual round, and rapid fire round.
The hard-won first place went to Zuchobemo Ezung and Subshankar Dey, second prize to Chenithung Ngullie and Ovungthung Jungio while third prize went to Zijano Kithan and Ethungyani Ovung (all three teams from DBHSS, Wokha). First, second and third prize winners walked away with cash prizes of Rs. 3000/-, Rs. 2000/-, and Rs. 1000/- respectively along with participation certificates.
Earlier, KHE women coordinator Erenbeni Kikon chaired the short function while KHE chairman Y. Likhao Humtsoe delivered the welcome address. Short speeches were delivered by KHE education convenor Dr Emmanuel Yanthan and CMHS headmaster Pun. Dr Emmanuel Yanthan and Dr Limhathung Jami judged the event while DBHSS senior teacher Stephen TT was the quizmaster. Kids for Fame finalist Areno Lotha also entertained the participants with a special number.
Meanwhile, KHE has thanked the participants and well wishers for their contribution.
