4th International Shillong Shopping Carnival begins

The 4th International Shillong Shopping Carnival (ISSC) organized by Industries & Trade Fair Association of Assam (ITFAA) in coordination with Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Ministry of Textile, Government of India would be held at Madan Iewrynghep, Laitumkhrah from October 22 to October 30. This event is slowly emerging as one of the most popular trade expositions in the region. The fair was inaugurated by Minister for Higher and Technical Education Ampareen Lyngdoh in presence of Laitumkhrah Dorbar Shnongs. In order to set the mood this year, cultural functions including dance, music, fancy dress, drawing competition for children below till 12 years will be organized everyday. Cooking competition will also be organized for the women folk. Mouthwatering Biryani and Kababs will be available for foodlovers. Kulfi which has already won the hearts of Shillongites will come back with more varieties. ITFAA which aspires to take Meghalaya to the world community this time has coordinated with Royal Thai Embassy in India and Development Commissioner (Handicraft) Ministry of Textiles, Government of India to promote indigenous products of Northeast and organized ‘Made in North East’ in Thailand where handicraft product of Meghalaya was displayed. In order to strengthen the relationship between Thailand and Northeast, a visiting delegation of ITFAA had recently urged the Ambassador of Thailand in India to provide special rebates and facilities to entrepreneurs from Northeast keen to do business in Thailand. The ISSC will also see the participation of Handicrafts artisans from northeast under the banner of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textile, Government of India. Thirty artisans from the across the region will showcase their products in the fair giving a big boost to the handicraft industry. More than 150 participants including multinational companies, handicrafts units and entrepreneurs from across the country will participate in the fair. State Bank of India and Indian Oil are supporting the trade event.
