Responding to NPF allegation that the Congress in Nagaland during its decade long reign from 1993 to 2003 hardly did anything worthwhile to promote the rich cultural heritage of the Nagas, the NPCC has challenged the NPF to list out what notable works they themselves have done for the same during their seven years of ruling. “The people of Nagaland have not noticed anything except spending crores of rupees for so called road show feast for one day affairs at the expense of the public,” NPCC vice president, Nillo Rengma said in a statement referring to the NPF-led DAN regime in the state. The NPCC pointed out recent report in a local daily which stated that the Kiphire road show was managed with Rs 25 lakhs only. It wondered as to how many crores DAN government was going to spend for road shows in a year, if spending Rs 25 lakhs was the “lowest average rate.’ The NPCC reminded that it was Congress government led by SC Jamir, who introduced the much publicized and celebrated Hornbill festival and also the system of adopting tourism village in the state and claimed that the Naga culture and festival had emerged to reach greater heights attracting tourists especially foreign ones into Nagaland, since then. It alleged that the DAN government had done nothing for promotion for Naga culture but spending crores of rupees in the name of road show without following the financial code and procedure by deducting funds from departmental voted budget without actual placement of budget provision. Referring to the DAN and NPF statement that the budget allocation for road show was voted in the Assembly, the NPCC wanted to know what was the budget allocation amount voted for the same in the Assembly during the year 2009-10 and against which department and the model department for the road show. The NPCC also wanted to know if the programme was for every district and sub-division or for every tribe and community in Nagaland, if it was a voted budget. The NPCC said that the queries should be made known to the people of Nagaland.
