Rio extols role of women

Stating that the status of women in society determined the stability of a society, state chief minister, Neiphiu Rio on Sunday said the society or the state could also be strengthened by uplifting/strengthening the status of women. He admitted that women in the present day had succeeded men in every field. Rio was speaking as the chief guest at the silver jubilee celebration of T. Khel Women Organization cum T. Khel Day at Mission Compound. To further strengthen the status of women in the state, the chief minister pointed out that the government had taken various steps such as the formation of Women Commission to protect the rights of women, and also empowered them with employment through the Women Development Department. He reiterated that uplifting the status of women in society would lead to a stronger society. Acknowledging the Tsütuonuomia clan for their broadmindedness and generosity in donating land to the government, the chief guest also expressed concern for the need to expand the state capital. In this regard, the chief minister appealed for donation/sale of land for further development. Rio pointed out that Kohima town was in due for road widening, satellite township and other developmental activities. He called upon the gathering to lead and expand the Naga society with positive attitude and by following the good traditions of the forefathers. Earlier, the chief minister’s wife, Kaisa Rio released the jubilee souvenir. State DGP K. Kire, additional chief secretary, school education, Banuo Z. Jamir and additional chief secretary and development commissioner, Alemtemshi Jamir also attended the programme. Rio condoles Chief minister Neiphiu Rio has expressed shock on hearing the news of the demise of Verielie Rutsa , secretary , NPF central office who passed away on Sunday after a brief illness. In a message received here, he said late Rutsa served as president of NPF, Kohima and was one of the secretaries of NPF Central office bearers and described him as a committed person who always worked for the betterment of people. Rio and his wife paid condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that Almighty God grant them courage to withstand the irreparable loss and for the departed soul to rest in peace. Meanwhile, K.G. Kenyie secretary general NPF Central has also offered condolences on the death of Virelie Rutsa. In message, Keniye stated that it was a shocking and grievous loss to the NPF and the deceased’s family. The funeral service of late Virielie Rutsa would be held on October 26, at 11am at Kezieke, Kohima.
