‘Queen of Battle’ to observe 62nd anniversary

The Infantry’ popularly known as the 'Queen of Battle' would celebrate its 62nd anniversary on October 27. Every year, all infantry units of the Indian Army celebrate ‘Infantry Day’ on October 27 to commemorate Indian Army’s first post independence victory in driving out Pakistani invaders from Kashmir Valley in 1947. On the occasion, Lieutenant General NK Singh, AVSM, VSM, GOC 3 Corps would felicitate all ranks of the infantry and their families and call upon all infantrymen to re-dedicate themselves in the service of the motherland and do the Infantry, Army and the Nation proud. Infantry is the highest decorated arm of the Army but it has also the distinction of having made the maximum supreme sacrifice for the Nation. It has accomplished all the tasks of guarding our frontiers as well as in counter insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir and the North East with fervour and élan in the highest traditions of the Army, in the most challenging environments. Lieutenant General VK Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Headquarters Eastern Command, Fort William, also an infantryman, in his felicitation message to the Infantry fraternity urged all infantrymen to uphold the rich traditions and valour of Infantry. He also complimented infantrymen deployed in rugged terrain and inclement weather for combating hostile elements with exemplary devotion and personal sacrifice. In Rangapahar Military Station, Lieutenant General NK Singh, as senior most infantry man will host retired army officers and their families in the ‘SOI’.
