Free cataract surgery camp

To commemorate ‘World Sight Day’ 2009 the District Health Society – National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) Dimapur has begun a free cataract IOL camp at District (Civil) Hospital Dimapur from October 26 to 30. In the inaugural function Dr Ritu Thurr Dy CMO Dimapur chaired the occasion, Dr Taku programme officer NPCB stressed on the need to mobilize the public and create awareness on blindness. Dr Punokiu, nodal officer NPCB highlighted the importance of blindness control and its statistical significance in the world and in the state. The eye specialists who are conducting the camp include Dr Taku, Dr Punsokiu, Dr Pokim and Dr Kushio. This year’s theme of World Sight Day is ‘Gender and Eye health’ and aims at providing equal access to eye care for all as 64% of the blind population are women and girls.
