Dmu schools to close on November 2

With the forthcoming first N.E. Dr. T. Ao football tournament to be played in the DDSC stadium Dimapur from November 2 to 12, the state government has directed all government and private schools in Dimapur to remain closed on the opening day on November 2. In accordance with the state government order, the DIS Dimapur Y Khetoshe Yepthomi has directed that all students from class VII upwards attend the opening ceremony on November 2. DIS also asked all head teachers /headmasters /principals of both government and private schools in Dimapur town to attend the inaugural function along with the students and to reach the venue-DDSC stadium- on or before 1:30 p.m. on November 2. The annual tournament will be held on rotation in all north eastern states to honour the legendary footballer late Dr T Ao, the first Indian Olympic Football captain to promote the game in the region. Dr Ao, who led Independent India’s first football squad in 1948 London Olympics, played for Mohan Bagun from 1942 to 1949 while studying at R.G. Kar Medical College, Kolkata. The tournament which has been accorded a national level status,will be the first ever national level sports to be played in Dimapur, Nagaland. Hectic preparations have been going on for the past several days with state chief minister Neiphiu Rio coordinating the exercise with the district administration and civic body.
