Tribute to Indira Priyadarshani

It has been 25 years since Prime Minister Indira Priyadarshani Gandhi was assassinated on October 31, 1984. Parliamentary secretary social welfare & women development Chotisuh Sazo today paid a tribute to former prime minister late Indira Gandhi, the architect of ICDS scheme, on the eve of her death anniversary. Remembering the “visionary leader”, late Indira Gandhi, who launched the Integrated Child Development Services on October 2, 1975 for the women and children of India, the parliamentary secretary in a message said: “We also remember our great leader for her steadfast resolve to fight violence and terrorism.” Sazo pointed out that, Nagaland, which began with two ICDS projects in 1975 has today grown to 59 ICDS projects with 3455 Anganwadi Centres and 3.75 lakhs children – aged 6 months to 6 years – and pregnant and lactating mothers. “Our children our future, our mothers are our refuge and pride,” parliamentary secretary social welfare & women development said. He further called upon all to renew “our collective resolve” to care for children and ground against the evil and scourge of violence and terrorism and transform “our land and our country into a land of peace, equality and oneness so that ‘Unity and diversity’ prevails.”
