The Assam Rifles has outrightly denied the allegations that it had abandoned one of its jawans suffering from HIV, saying the charges were “bereft of truth and distorted facts being presented, overlooking factual realities of the entire case.” According to a statement issued by the PRO, IGAR (N), the patient, a Rifleman was referred to Guwahati Medical College where he was admitted in Department of Medicine, HIV ward and “not lying on the corridor as reflected in the media report.” Earlier, the jawan was also referred to two different hospitals in Shillong. It was mentioned that while the Rifleman was under treatment at Guwahati Medical College hospital, his relatives visited him and “perhaps not satisfied with the quality and treatment and care in government hospital shifted the patient out against medical advise to Dimapur on October 4.” The AR said that the whereabouts of the jawan was unknown to the unit since he was shifted under own arrangement to Dimapur and onwards. The AR however said that on receipt of information from Naga Hospital, it had dispatched a sick attendant from the unit and currently helping out the patient in Naga Hospital.
