Bishop Jose resigns

Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation of the Bishop of the Diocese of Kohima, Rt Rev Jose Mukala DD who cited health problems in his resignation letter on Friday. A statement from the Diocese of Kohima said the resignation was accepted by Pope Benedict XVI as per the norms, customs and tradition of the Catholic Church. It was stated that the Archbishop of Imphal, Most Reverend Dominic Lumon has been appointed by the Pope as the Apostolic Administrator to take care of the Diocese of Kohima till the new Bishop is appointed. Bishop Jose was ordained as a priest on April 10, 1978. The statement further said that on November 8, 1997 Bishop Jose’s election as the Bishop of Kohima was announced and that he was consecrated as the second Bishop in the vacant Diocese of Kohima on March 15, 1998.
