Asian assembly on SCCs in Davao

The 5th Asian general assembly on Small Christian Communities (SCCs) was held at Davao City in Philippines from October 20 to 28 with 227 delegates including 23 bishops from 17 counties. Fr. Carolus Kotsu the Vicar General and Fr. Benny Varghese Secretary to Bishop and Director of Small Christian communities represented the diocese of Kohima. The main focus of assembly was for the participants to share their community building projects and experiences in the context of the Eucharist and the Word of God. The new methods of Gospel sharing were introduced and practiced in small groups which were comprised of members of different countries. The principal speakers the assembly were Bishop Chito Tagle from Cavite- Philippines, Bishop Fritz Lobinger Bishop Oswald Hirmer from South Africa. Secretary to Bishop of Nagaland, Fr. Benny Varghese stated that participants were taken to exposure in various parishes and SCC units of the Davao diocese for interaction and to learn from direct intervention. The Assembly concluded with drafting new statement to be implemented in Asia by various dioceses for the reformation of the Catholic Church by being a church of communion of communities.
