Departments led by young ministers in the Lal Thanhawla government in Mizoram have been proved to be far ahead of those led by the older brigade in terms of performance. A ‘’Mizoram Watch’’ conducted by civic organisations Prism, Sosa, Fomtu, Y4M and SDYC has revealed that departments such as Health and Labour led by Lalrinliana Sailo, Law and Education led by Lalsawta, Power and Works led by Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla and Sports and Urban Development led by Zodintluanga were doing well. The Mizoram Watch reviewed the performances of the ten-month old Congress government in Mizoram. The review also remarked that the government had vigorously pursued its flagship ‘New Land Use Policy’, its major poll plank. Of the 161-point election manifestoes, the Congress government implemented six points which were formation of Ethics Committee, State Law Commission, Education Reforms Commission and setting up of civil service coaching centre. The government has also activated the state Election Commission and allocated increased budget for the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, reported UNI. The next Mizoram Watch will be held in April, 2010. People from Church-sponsored watchdog Mizoram People’s Forum (MPF) had met the chief minister at his office a few days back and reminded him of his party’s election manifestoes. The MPF leaders also voiced serious concern over the recent incidents of extortion by Manipur-based militant group in the North-eastern parts of Mizoram. They urged the chief minister to take effective measures to protect the people from militancy.
