Indigenous games mark first day of Wokha road show

Wokha town was full of colours and the mood of festivity filled the air as the prelude to Tokhu Emong festival cum State Road Show kicked off to a colourful start on Thursday at local ground Wokha. Home Commissioner Mhathung Kithan IAS who graced the inaugural function as chief guest exhorted the gathering to introspect the role of change in their ever changing world. ‘We can allow to take changes in its own because it will be a dangerous one’ he maintained. Chief guest also encouraged for constructive criticism for betterment of the society and also highlighted on the importance of preserving one’s identity. Home Commissioner declared the cultural cum indigenous competition of Kyong community open. Cultural cum Indigenous games were the special highlight of the first day of Tokhu Emong festival where 21 cultural groups competed under for different categories. In folk dance competition Cistus School Wokha bagged the first position while Nrung Longidang cultural Clubs Wokha was awarded the second prize. Longgra Village Youth & Wokha Town Cultural Club (Phiro) bagged the first and second position respectively in the folk song category. Under the male group Wokha Town Akuk Cultural Club was adjudged the winner while Longra Village Wothok Okhos took the second position. Wokha Town Akuk Cultural Club and Wokha Town Lakhuti Village Cultural Club bagged the first and second respectively under the female group categories. Other highlights of the inaugural programme included discount sales held at the Basketball Court where exhibition stalls were put up by various SHGs and Government departments. Doyang fishes, fresh fruits and vegetables, local products, handlooms and wares food most attracted huge crowd during the 1st day of Tokhu Emong festival cum State Road Show.
