KVK introduces rabbit farming in Phek

As a part of its programme, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Phek had recently conducted trainings in active collaboration with NABARD, Dimapur. NABARD had sponsored two training programmes in the past and general manager NABARD regional office, Dimapur had visited the village where rabbitry was introduced and three new training programmes on backyard rabbit farming in three villages of the district Phek namely Kikruma, Pfutseromi and Thevopisu were sponsored. A total of 90 women members of different self help group were trained under this programme. Dr. Prakash Ranjan Dutta, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science) was the resource person for this programme. He explained in details about advantages of rabbit farming, breeds and breeding of rabbit, feeding, care of new born kits, processing of rabbit fur and prevention and control of common rabbit diseases. A pair of rabbit to each trainee was also provided at the end of the training with the support from NABARD. According to KVK programme coordinator R. K. Singh Phek it is also planning to organize rabbit fur processing training in the next phase as fur was used to produce various products like shawl, jacket, hand gloves, money bag etc.
